Cricket Team
Jaffna College has been playing cricket for more than 100 years and has been playing the big matches with St Patrick’s since the beginning of the 20th century. We were the first to start playing 50 overs and 20 over matches in the Northern Province as an extended 3 match series of big matches. Several of our cricketers have gone on to represent the district, province and school boys’ national teams.
We currently field U19, U17, U15, and U13 teams using two cricket grounds. Our main cricket venue, the Bicknell Memorial Ground & pavilion is one of the largest in the district, with an excellent pavilion and net practice facilities. We have supplemented our internal coaches with additional external specialist coaches to provide flexibility to students in scheduling practices and to have enhanced training.
We have initiated softball Cricket for women with the inaugural Alumni – Staff Cricket match in 2023 and we are now looking forward to the schoolgirls following the trend.
